Are you interested in singing with the Cincinnati Men’s Chorus? We are always looking for new singers to join our ranks. Our members are a diverse group of singers of all backgrounds and musical skill levels!

Rehearsals take place on Wednesdays at St. John's Unitarian Universalist Church in Clifton at 7p.m.

Why should I join?

The CMC is a family, a creative outlet, a way to make positive change, and a LOT of fun! While everyone has their own reason for joining, we stay because of the love our music brings to each other and because the work we do changes lives. We know you’ll be a great addition to our family, too!

I don’t read music and I don’t have any formal musical training. Can I still join CMC?

Yes! CMC members represent a variety of different musical backgrounds and skill levels, and reading music is not a requirement. If you feel like you need help, we have staff and members ready to help you gain the tools and confidence you need!

What’s the process?

To join, you will need to sign up for a vocal placement. Vocal placements are our low-pressure version of an “audition.” They are a chance for you to meet our Artistic Director, and for them to get to know a little bit about you and your voice. You don’t need to prepare anything in advance or bring any music (unless you want to). Auditions will be no more than 10 minutes in length.

During your vocal placement, you will meet with our 1-on-1 with our Artistic Director, who will:

Lead you through a few basic vocal exercises to determine your range and pitch
Ask you to sing a simple, familiar song, such as Happy Birthday
Assign you to a section (Tenor 1, Tenor 2, Baritone, or Bass)
OPTIONAL: You may bring a short piece of music that you are comfortable singing that showcases your voice. Please bring sheet music clearly marked with portions that you wish to sing.

When are vocal placements held?

We hold vocal placements before the first two rehearsals of each concert period. These typically take place in September and January.

How do I get signed up?

If we aren’t currently scheduling, sign up anyway! We want to make sure you can join as soon as possible. In the meantime, we’d love to keep you in the loop with what we’re doing.

What’s the commitment?

Time Commitment

The CMC season runs from September to June and currently consists of two main season concerts; Holiday in December and Pride in May. We also sing throughout our season at various public and private events.

During the season, we rehearse Wednesday evenings from 7:00pm-9:30pm. We have one retreat weekend each Fall and Spring, and additional rehearsals during our concert weeks. We set our schedule well in advance because we want you to be able to plan ahead.

Financial Commitment

Our members pay dues, which are currently $75 per concert period ($150 for the year). Members are also responsible for buying their own concert attire. We offer a variety of payment options to make this practical for your budget.

We also recognize that members come from varying financial circumstances which may change from concert to concert. The Chorus offers scholarships and financial assistance to members facing financial burden, confidential and no-questions-asked.
