Our History

Looking Through Our History

Since its founding in the summer of 1991, the Cincinnati Men’s Chorus (CMC) has experienced growth in both size and musical excellence. What began with 60 members, representing diverse backgrounds, ages, and identities, including gay and gay-supportive individuals, has evolved into a vibrant community of performers. For many years, the chorus rehearsed and performed at the First Unitarian Church in Avondale, and today, we are proud to gather for rehearsal in Clifton and perform at Memorial Hall in Over the Rhine.

In 2020-2021, as the nation continued to navigate the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Cincinnati Men’s Chorus (CMC) marked a significant milestone—celebrating its 30th anniversary. In response to the circumstances, CMC embraced the opportunity to connect with its community through a virtual season, bringing together both current and past members in a heartfelt celebration of our pearl anniversary. The virtual season was met with overwhelming success and support.

As CMC transitioned into Season 31, live performances resumed with a smaller chorus, but the spirit of community and our mission to inspire change helped drive a steady re-growth in our membership. By Season 34, CMC experienced notable growth in both audience and membership, reaffirming our vital presence in the community. Today, under the talented direction of Spencer Zembrodt, CMC is thriving and eagerly looking ahead to an exciting Season 35.

The Cincinnati Men's Chorus (CMC) continues to bring its powerful voice to the Cincinnati area through two annual concerts, as well as participating in beloved local events like the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky Pride Festivals, Fine Arts Sampler Weekend, the Walk to Stop AIDS, and national anthem performances at Reds and Bengals games. Your support helps sustain our efforts to unite, inspire, and uplift the community through music.
